Junior Primary

Grade 0-3

Enrich the heart. Educate the mind.

A Strong Academic Foundation

At St Teresa’s Junior Primary, we believe that every girl is capable of more than she knows, and our job is to help her discover that.

We offer a sound, balanced and broad-based education in a caring, structured environment, but the word we return to again and again is wholeness. Our small class sizes mean that every girl is truly known by her teacher - not just her marks, but her character, her questions, the things that make her light up. From that place of being deeply known, she can grow.

Our curriculum is built around skills for lifelong learning: thought processes, Habits of Mind, curiosity, and the confidence to try. We create learning experiences that recognise each child’s individual potential, because every girl in our care is uniquely and wonderfully made in God’s image.

We nurture curiosity, confidence and a love of learning from the earliest years.

Support for Every Child

No child is left to struggle alone at St Teresa’s.

In-class learner support is woven into every classroom, and our dedicated Learning Centre team including an Occupational Therapist, Speech Therapist, Physiotherapist, Child Psychologist and Remedial Therapist works hand in hand with our teachers. Together, they ensure that every girl is seen, supported and encouraged to achieve her very best

Developing Thinking Skills

We want our girls to be thinkers, not just knowers.

Through the Habits of Mind framework, we nurture critical thinking, problem-solving, perseverance, creativity and collaboration. We provoke reflection, encourage initiative, and celebrate the questions as much as the answers because a girl who thinks deeply and sticks with hard problems is a girl who is truly prepared for life.

Chess is also part of our curriculum as it is a wonderful, playful way to develop logic, strategy and focus that our girls genuinely love.

Future-Focused Learning

Our girls live in a world that is changing fast, and we prepare them for it with confidence and joy.

Our academic programme blends the best of traditional teaching with modern technology. Through our Knowledge Network Programme, girls develop strong ICT foundations. Coding and robotics bring creativity and logic together in exciting ways. Chromebooks are used for project-based and extension activities, giving our girls a secure, guided digital environment in which to grow.

Every girl is encouraged to move, to try, and to belong.

Extramurals

Life at St Teresa’s stretches far beyond the classroom.

We offer a vibrant range of cultural and sporting extramurals, and we encourage every girl to explore, try new things, and discover where her passions lie. Whether she shines on the stage or the sports field, extramurals build interpersonal skills, confidence, teamwork and a lifelong love of being active. Both school and private extramurals are offered.

Sport

Sport at St Teresa’s is about far more than winning.

Our Grade 1–3 Sport Programme is built around age-appropriate gross motor development, confidence and a genuine love for physical activity. Every child is encouraged to participate whether to run, to try, to cheer her teammate on. By Grade 3, girls begin taking part in selected competitive inter-school events, equipped with the skills and sportsmanship they have been quietly building over the years.

Physical Education lessons complement our sports programme, focusing on movement and coordination, balance, core strength, and ball skills including tennis. These lessons are fun, energetic and designed to give every girl a body she trusts as well as a love of being active that will serve her for life.
