Well-Being at St Teresa’s School

Embracing well-being at St Teresa’s School goes far beyond individual actions; it is rooted in a whole-school culture that values physical, emotional, social and spiritual health. Our aim is not only to help our students cope, but to guide them toward a life where they can truly learn, grow and thrive.

Promoting well-being is not achieved through isolated interventions. It requires a consistent, whole-community approach. At St Teresa’s, this begins with the commitment of every staff member, teaching and non-teaching, who contributes to a nurturing, safe and supportive environment. Our Wellness Programme is grounded in a holistic and preventative philosophy, ensuring that well-being is woven into daily school life.

Valuing well-being lies at the heart of our ethos. We believe schools play a pivotal role in helping young people make healthy lifestyle choices, understand their impact, and build the skills needed to manage their overall health.

Adolescence is a crucial developmental stage that shapes long-term attitudes toward well-being. Through intentional teaching, workshops, pastoral guidance and guest speakers, our students develop resilience, emotional literacy, healthy relationships and the tools needed to care for themselves and others, both now and in the future.

St Teresa’s also actively partners with parents by hosting regular talks and information sessions facilitated by professionals. These events are open to our wider community, contributing to a shared network of support and learning.

Wellness, at its core, is an ongoing process of awareness, reflection and proactive choice. It is not simply the absence of stress or the presence of happiness, but the pursuit of balanced, holistic well-being. Together, students, staff and parents, we create an environment where well-being is not an aspiration, but an integral part of our collective journey.

Support at St Teresa’s School

Supporting our students academically, emotionally and socially is an essential part of our mission. From the earliest years in Rosebuds and the Junior Primary through to the Senior Primary, St Teresa’s offers a comprehensive support structure that ensures every girl is understood, encouraged and equipped to reach her full potential.

Academic Support - Early Intervention (Pre and Primary School)

Our approach to academic support is built on early identification, close collaboration and child-centred intervention. Support includes:

Teachers closely monitor developmental milestones, learning behaviours, early literacy and numeracy skills to identify areas where a student may benefit from additional guidance. Support begins with in-class strategies and small-group reinforcement.

Learning Centre Support

Our on-site Learning Centre provides access to a team of qualified therapists and specialists who offer targeted intervention when needed. This may include:

• Occupational therapy

• Speech and language therapy

• Remedial support

• Emotional or behavioural support

• Fine and gross motor development support

Teachers and therapists work collaboratively to ensure continuity between therapy sessions and classroom activities, creating a seamless support journey.

Small-Group and Individualised Support

In both JP and SP, students may receive short-term, focused support to strengthen skills such as reading readiness, phonics, handwriting, numeracy foundations or executive functioning (working memory, attention, organisation).

Partnership with Parents

Ongoing communication with parents ensures that the support provided at school is understood, reinforced and aligned with each child’s individual needs. Regular feedback and progress updates form part of this partnership.

A Values-Based Approach

Support at St Teresa’s is delivered with the Mercy values of dignity, compassion and care at the forefront. We believe that academic progress is closely linked to emotional well-being, and our supportive, understanding environment helps girls feel safe, confident and willing to try.

Thriving Through Connection & Care

Whether through pastoral care, classroom support, therapy services or whole-school wellness programmes, our commitment is the same: to see every Rosie flourish, academically, emotionally, socially and spiritually.
