The Lifeskills Program
The Lifeskills programme is only offered once your child reaches high school, and
runs for a period of six weeks every term. A variety of activities is offered, according
to popular demand as well as to what we are able to resource. Successful courses
from previous years include: crafts such as scrap-booking, chocolate making, fabric
painting, flower arranging, pottery, puppet-making, decoupage; First Aid, yoga,
Tai Chi, calligraphy, aromatherapy, reflexology, chess, Study Skills. There is also
always demand for sport, so girls who are not in official teams can still play netball,
tennis, and so on. Choir and Debating also have a place in this programme.
The emphasis is on widening horizons and on learning something that is both fun
and useful, but not academic. Girls thoroughly enjoy getting to know each other
in a a different setting and exploring new avenues of experience. We have even heard
that people have made use of the skills they gained in this fashion, in making a
career or a profitable hobby. Past pupils invariably mention the Lifeskills programme
as one of the aspects of the school curriculum that have proved beneficial in “real”
life.
We are always on the look-out for exciting and different pursuits, and for people
who are willing to volunteer to share their passions with our girls!
